Plan Your Luau: A Complete Guide to Building Your One-of-a-Kind Hawaiian Experience

August 2, 2026By 9thisland.events

Planning a luau in Las Vegas is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Every event is different — the guest count, the vibe, the food, the entertainment, the level of cultural immersion. That is exactly why we built the Plan Your Luau feature at 9thisland.events/plan: a fully interactive, multi-step planner that lets you design your event from the ground up and see a live cost estimate update with every choice you make.

This guide walks you through every section of the planner so you know exactly what to expect — and exactly how much creative control you have.

Step 1 — Event Details

The planner opens with the basics: your event date, start time, guest count, and venue address. These details anchor everything that follows. Guest count drives per-person pricing across catering, leis, and staffing. The date and address help us confirm availability and plan logistics.

You also select which services you want included in your event. Each service you activate unlocks its own dedicated configuration section later in the planner. The available services are:

  • Luau Show — fire dancers, hula performers, and live Hawaiian entertainment
  • Hawaiian Catering — full-service food and beverage for your guests
  • Whole Roasted Pig — traditional imu-style kalua pig as a centerpiece
  • Hawaiian Leis — fresh and silk lei options for greeting or gifting
  • Luau Props — authentic tiki statues, torches, and décor packages
  • Roaming Tikis — costumed performers who move through your crowd
  • Lei Greeting — a dedicated greeter welcoming guests with leis at arrival
  • Branded Coconuts — custom-printed coconuts as a unique party favor

Step 2 — Configure Your Services

This is where the real customization begins. Each service you selected in Step 1 gets its own configuration panel.

Hawaiian Catering

Catering is the heart of any luau, and the planner gives you two ways to build your menu.

Curated Packages offer three ready-made menus priced per person:

  • Island BBQ ($30/pp) — BBQ Chicken, Kalua Pork, White Rice, Watermelon Poke Salad, Mac Salad, King's Hawaiian Rolls, and Egg Rolls
  • Luau Feast ($50/pp) — Whole Roasted Pig, Huli Huli Chicken, Fried Rice, Veggie/Mixed Noodles, Mac Salad, Poke Salad, Rolls, and Egg Rolls
  • Premium Luau ($75/pp) — Whole Roasted Pig, Pulehu Braised Beef Short Ribs, Huli Huli Chicken, Fried Rice, Veggie Noodles, Mac Salad, Poke Salad, Green Salad, Rolls, and Egg Rolls

You can also add premium upgrades to any package: A5 Wagyu Skewers ($50/pp), a Sushi Boat ($20/pp), or a full Sushi Bar with Hand Rolls, Nigiri, and Cut Rolls ($120/pp).

À La Carte Custom Menu is for guests who want to build something entirely their own. Every item is organized into accordion categories so the menu stays clean and easy to navigate:

  • Chicken — 11 options including Hawaiian BBQ, Coconut Huli Huli, Korean Fried, Mochiko, Lechon Manok, and Katsu Chicken
  • Pork — Kalua Pork, Crispy Pork Belly, Whole Lechon, BBQ Pork Skewers, and more
  • Beef — Wagyu BBQ Beef, Mango BBQ Tri-Tip, Kalbi Korean BBQ Short Ribs, Wagyu Skewers, and more
  • Rice — Steamed White, Garlic Fried, Vegetable Fried, Mixed Fried with Proteins & Seafood
  • Noodles — Pancit Bihon, Pad Thai, Sotanghon, Pancit Sayote, Show Low Mein, and more
  • Sides & Vegetables — Chop Suey, Grilled Veggies, Sautéed Broccolini, Wasabi Garlic Mashed Potatoes, King's Hawaiian Rolls
  • Appetizers — Inari Poke Bombs, Lumpia Shanghai, Turon Banana Egg Rolls, Shumai, Pot Stickers, Coconut Battered Shrimp
  • Salads — Hawaiian Green Salad, Mac Salad, Hawaiian Potato Egg Mac Salad, Ramen Cabbage Salad, Pineapple Coleslaw, Wakame Seaweed Salad, Green Papaya Salad, and more
  • Food Stations — Musubi Station, Noodles Station (cooked on location), and Fried Rice Station (cooked on location) — all at $15/pp
  • Hawaiian Charcuterie Table — Small (6 ft, $850 flat), Medium ($1,200 flat), or Large ($2,200 flat)
  • Fruit Displays — tiered display options for a tropical centerpiece
  • Desserts — Halo-Halo, Hawaiian Shaved Ice, Dole Whip, and more

Every per-person item multiplies automatically against your guest count in the live cost estimator.

Whole Roasted Pig

Select your pig size, add a professional pig carver (billed hourly at $175/hr), upgrade to a full décor presentation, or add on-location roasting for the full imu experience.

Hawaiian Leis

Choose from a curated selection of fresh and silk lei styles. Each type is priced individually so you can mix and match for greeters, guests, or VIP gifting.

Luau Props

Nine décor packages ranging from starter tiki setups to full venue transformations with authentic wood-carved Polynesian tikis, torches, and tropical arrangements. Each package is described with what is included so you can match the scale to your venue.

Branded Coconuts

Set your quantity and we handle the custom printing. A $20/pp keepsake that doubles as a tropical drink vessel and a branded party favor your guests will remember.

Step 3 — Details & Notes

After configuring your services, Step 3 captures the finer details that help us prepare an accurate quote:

  • Catering Staff — add servers at $8/pp
  • Event notes — any special requests, dietary restrictions, venue access details, or timing notes
  • Social media preferences — let us know if you want event coverage, tagging, or content creation included

Step 4 — Contact Information

Enter your name, email, and phone number. This is where your quote gets delivered — we send a full itemized breakdown to your inbox along with a custom event flier.

Step 5 — Quote Review

Before you submit, the planner shows you a complete summary of everything you have selected: every service, every item, every performer, and the full estimated cost broken down by category — catering, entertainment, leis, pig, props, staff, and compliance. Nothing is hidden.

The live cost estimator in the sidebar updates in real time throughout the entire planning process, so you always know where you stand before you ever reach the final step.

Fire Performance Compliance Package

If your event includes fire performers, the planner includes an optional Compliance Package to handle all permitting and logistics:

  • Fire Permit — $3,000 per performer (includes floor plan drawing for Fire Marshal approval and fire props demonstration for Fire Department approval)
  • Certificate of Insurance (COI) — $150
  • Site Survey — $200
  • Taste Testing — $350

These are available as add-ons in the entertainment section and are factored into your quote automatically.

Why Build Your Luau This Way?

Most event companies give you a phone call and a PDF. We give you a tool that puts the creative decisions in your hands. You see the cost of every choice in real time. You build the menu you actually want — not a preset someone else designed. You select the performers that match your crowd and your budget.

The result is a luau that is genuinely yours — not a template, not a package deal, not a compromise.
